5 Skincare Tips For Summer
1. Don’t forget to slip, slop, slap - it’s a no-brainer that SPF is a crucial part of any skincare routine year round, but it is especially important in the warmer months when the UV index is at its highest. My personal favourite is the Ultra Violet Queen Screen as it is lightweight, layers beautifully under makeup and gives a gorgeous glowy finish. Our founders current favourite for sensitive skin is the Feel Good Inc sensitive sunscreen. I’d also recommend adding some long sleeve linen shirts to your wardrobe if you haven’t already. These make for a stylish beach cover up and help protect your back, chest and shoulders from the sun. |
2. Lips and eyes - if you know you’re going to be getting a little more sun than usual, I’d recommend switching out your regular lip balm for one with SPF. The ones from Ultra Violet are great! Sunburnt lips are never fun. Sunglasses will also help protect your delicate eye area from the sun’s harmful rays - fine lines be gone. Throw these two necessities in your YCL Tote Bag for a day at the beach, and you are good to go. |
3. Fake tan is your friend - we all love to look a little sun-kissed; however, this often comes with a side of cellular damage that we often can’t see until many, many years down the track. Not all fake tans make you look patchy and orange, either. My absolute favourite is the Bondi Sands dark foam. I like to apply an even coat all over once a week and sleep in it. It leaves me with the most natural-looking bronze tan. |
4. Not all sun is bad - this may sound a little contradictory to my previous three tips; however, the sun has amazing healing power for skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Short bursts of sun exposure really help whenever I have a flare up. So long as you are not getting burnt. Usually, no more than 10 minutes is all I need - not to mention the mood boosting benefits of a bit of sunshine. |
5. Yes, you still need to moisturise - I know your skin probably feels a little more ‘well-oiled’ than usual in the warmer months but keeping your skin adequately moisturised is still extremely important. I prefer light layers of hydration and moisture, particularly when things start to heat up. Think, a deliciously hydrating serum, followed by a few drops of your favourite face oil. My go-to combination is Medik8 Hydr8 serum and my trusty Biologi Organic Rose Hip Oil (or if you’re particularly oily, you’ll probably want to swap this out for an oil-free lotion). |
