YCL Women's Series // Georgina Davies
We sat down with the incredibly stylish PR & Communcations Coordinator for The Locale Group, Georgina Davies. When Georgina is not exploring the beauty of her hometown Byron Bay, she is travelling to far off destinations and sharing beautiful imagery from her adventures.
- How did you get to where you are today? Tell us a little bit about your journey…
I grew up in Perth, WA where I studied Marketing at university before moving to Sydney. After a year in Sydney I felt the need to go travelling overseas so headed for India, Cambodia and Sri Lanka. Whilst over there I made a spontaneous decision to move to Byron Bay. I’d never actually been here but had heard great things. Sometimes spontaneity can take you exactly where you need to be.
2. Who is your ultimate muse / inspiration?
I’ve always admired Patti Smith’s poetry, romanticism and anarchist attitude.
3. You are based in Byron Bay. What are the local sights, cafes and restaurants you frequent on your days away from the business?
Doma in the hinterland is an all-time favourite of mine- it’s the perfect modern Japanese fusion. The drive out there is breathtaking in itself. Lately I’ve also been visiting Murwillumbah which is home to some the best op shops and antique stores in the area. Last week I ended up inside New Release antique store for over an hour. The owner was so knowledgeable; he talked me through the history of almost everything he had in there! I left with an old film camera from 1979 which I’m still not quite sure actually works but either way it was a delightful experience.
4. What is your favourite piece of jewellery and what story does it hold?
A simple gold ring. It was given to me by one of my close family friends that I have always looked up to. She is one of those beautiful people who is just so kind and is always thinking of others first. She not only radiates positive energy but evokes it inside of you too. It’s a piece I will always treasure.
5. We know travel is a passion of yours, & we’d love to know what your favourite destinations have been so far?
Hampi in Southern India was absolutely incredible. It's a little ancient village full of giant boulders, temples and amazing watering holes that you can explore via motorbike - it's like living in the Flintstones! My family’s country house in the south of France was also a very special place to visit. It’s an old converted barn that was built into the side of the Pyrenees Mountains. Travel really is amazing; it makes coming home all the more sweeter.
6. Take us through what a workday in the life of a PR & Communications Coordinator looks like.
Working across 3 extremely different brands means no two days are quite the same. My day consists of anything from briefing photographers and concepting collections to writing media releases and naming products. Only yesterday I spent the afternoon on the hunt for a pink cowboy hat for a shoot, it’s all of these little things that make work ever so interesting!
7. YCL stands for Your Core Light, what does Your Core Light mean to you?
Always doing you, being present and slowing down to let yourself appreciate the small things. The world really is inherently beautiful.
8. What advice would you impart on the next generation of women?
Never stop being curious, always explore the unknown and try new things. New experiences are what make life exciting.
